When it comes to achieving smoother, firmer, and rejuvenated skin, modern treatments like Dermapen Microneedling and Morpheus Resurfacing stand out as popular options. These two treatments are both designed to address a variety of skin concerns, but they differ significantly in their approach and results. If you’re trying to decide which treatment is best for you, keep reading to explore the benefits, differences, and ideal candidates for each.
How Does Dermapen Work?
Dermapen is a handheld microneedling device that uses a cluster of fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries on the skin’s surface. These tiny punctures stimulate the skin’s natural healing process, boosting collagen and elastin production.
Key Benefits of Dermapen:
- Reduces the appearance of acne scars and fine lines
- Improves overall skin texture and tone
- Minimises enlarged pores
- Promotes healthier, more radiant skin
Dermapen is minimally invasive because the treatment targets the top layers of skin, requiring little to no downtime. If you are looking for a simple yet effective skin resurfacing option, Dermapen microneedling is a great choice.
Morpheus 8 Resurfacing vs Morpheus 8
It’s important to note that Morpheus 8 resurfacing and Morpheus 8 are two different treatments. Morpheus 8 resurfacing is a superficial treatment and doesn’t target deeper skin issues. This means that Morpheus resurfacing is not effective for deep lines and wrinkles, significant scarring, skin tightening, or fat reduction.
The Morpheus 8 resurfacing tip only pierces the skin to a depth of 0.5mm, so only targets the epidermis (the top layer of skin). This is what makes it effective for skin texture and superficial pigmentation, improving skin cell turnover, creating fresh new layers of skin and boosting skin cell renewal. Morpheus 8 resurfacing also stimulates collagen production as the heat from the radiofrequency reaches the top of the dermal layer beneath. Due to this not being as deep, it won’t stimulate this as significantly as Morpheus 8.
Morpheus 8 resurfacing is a much more comfortable, well-tolerated treatment compared to the traditional Morpheus 8 treatment, which is much deeper and requires local anaesthetic.
Morpheus 8 resurfacing can trigger breakouts and can’t be safely used in darker skin tones due to heating the epidermis, which can trigger pigmentation. We do not recommend this treatment for Fitzpatrick skin types IV-VI.
For people who have minor skin concerns such as enlarged pores, poor skin texture, or uneven skin tone, Morpheus 8 resurfacing is perfect. This treatment is not suitable if you have more significant skin concerns such as lines & wrinkles, significant laxity or scarring.
Key Benefits of Morpheus Resurfacing:
- Stimulates collagen production
- Improves skin texture
- Improves superficial pigmentation
- Increases skin cell turnover
Dr Harriett has spoken on behalf of Inmode, at the Aesthetic Medicine Live Conference in Manchester about her experience combining Morpheus Resurfacing with other treatments to achieve the best results for your skin. Our wealth of experience with this device means we can create the best treatment plan for you to achieve the best results.
How Do The Two Treatments Differ?
The main difference between the two treatments is the inclusion of RF (radiofrequency) energy in Morpheus 8 resurfacing which can stimulate more collagen and repair. However, the downside to this is the longer healing period of 7-10 days.
Dermapen microneedling treatments are minimally invasive, but your skin will look red for 12-24 hours depending on the depth of the treatment. Dermapen allows customisable treatment depths, with a range of 0.1mm-3mm (which may be required for deeper scars).
