Calla Clinic

Hair Loss

Hair loss, medically known as alopecia, can affect both men and women; and is both more common than you might think and more challenging, too. Many of our clients say It has a significant impact on their confidence and self-esteem.

In men, the most common cause is male pattern baldness, typically a receding hairline and thinning on the crown. This is usually a hereditary condition linked to androgens, a group of hormones that regulate hair growth. Unfortunately, adding androgens is not the answer – male pattern baldness is a function of the way androgens interact with your hair, rather than a reduction in androgens themselves, so we work to find alternative solutions.

In women, the causes are more varied, including hormonal changes (like those during menopause), medical conditions, and certain medications. Stress and nutritional deficiencies can also contribute. Hair loss in women typically manifests as an overall thinning rather than a receding hairline. As there are significantly more potential causes of hair loss for women, a thorough investigation is essential.
