Rosacea & Redness

Rosacea affects around 1 in 10 people in the UK to some degree. It is caused by inflammation within the skin; leading to redness, break-outs, sensitivity, dryness,  facial flushing, and enlarged pores. It can also cause eye irritation.

In severe cases, the irritation can, in turn, produce the growth of lumps and bumps on the nose, a condition called Rhinophyma.

Everyone with rosacea is affected differently.  It is most commonly seen in adults over the age of 30. The exact cause is unknown, but like so many skin conditions, medical professionals believe it is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors: certain people are predisposed towards rosacea; and then it will be triggered by a particular experience. Common triggers for an initial bout of rosacea or a flare-up include stress, spicy food, alcohol, changes in weather, sun damage, and hormonal fluctuations.
