How Do We Remove Skin Lesions?

The technique of removal will depend on the type, size and number of lesions. We use either a CO2 laser or plasma device.

CO2 laser skin lesion removal involves using a carbon dioxide laser to precisely target and vaporise unwanted skin growths, such as moles, warts, or skin tags. The laser emits focused light energy that removes the lesion layer by layer while minimising damage to the surrounding skin. This method not only effectively eliminates the lesion but also promotes collagen production, aiding in smoother healing. The procedure is typically quick, often performed under local anaesthesia, and allows for minimal scarring and a faster recovery time compared to traditional excision methods.

No, we do not remove suspicious skin lesions. We are medically trained to assess skin lesions for possible signs of cancer or precancerous changes. If we are concerned about a mole or skin lesion we will advise you to attend your GP to have it checked and referred to a Dermatologist for biopsy if indicated. We will only remove lesions that are benign and do not offer a skin cancer screening service.

Skin lesion removal is a safe procedure that removes unwanted skin lesions with minimal healing and downtime. As with any treatment, there are small risks to the procedure which include infection, scarring and changes to the colour of the underlying skin. These risks will be discussed with you during your consultation to help you make an informed decision about whether to proceed with removal.

The time to heal will depend on the size, type and location of the skin lesion. Typically the lesion will form a small scab or crust which falls off after 5-7 days, revealing new, healed skin underneath. The ‘new’ skin may appear slightly pink in colour for 1-2 weeks until it has matured.

Your comfort is our priority to ensure you have a pleasant treatment experience. We use a local anaesthetic for your treatment which means you will be pain free! This involves giving a tiny injection immediately prior to removal of the lesion.
