Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) – Rejuvenate & Refresh Your Eyes

Over time, the delicate skin around the eyes can lose its elasticity, leading to drooping eyelids, puffiness, and under-eye bags. These changes can make you look tired, older, or less vibrant than you feel. Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is a highly effective procedure designed to refresh and rejuvenate the eye area by removing excess skin, tightening muscles, and reducing puffiness for a more youthful, rested appearance.

What Is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that targets the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on your concerns and aesthetic goals.

  • Upper Blepharoplasty – Treats sagging or hooded upper eyelids by removing excess skin and fat, restoring a more open, refreshed look. This procedure can also improve vision if drooping skin is obstructing your sight.
  • Lower Blepharoplasty – Reduces under-eye bags, puffiness, and fine lines by addressing fat deposits and tightening the skin, creating a smoother and brighter under-eye area.

Results

The results of blepharoplasty are long-lasting, often lasting 7—15 years (depending on how you age), helping you look naturally refreshed, more youthful, and well-rested. The results can be further improved by combining blepharoplasty surgery with CO2 laser resurfacing and using medical-grade skincare products to support your skin health in the long-term, slowing down the process of collagen loss.

FAQs

At The Calla Clinic, all eyelid surgeries are performed by Dr. Rohit Seth, an experienced plastic surgeon who travels from London. He holds pre-scheduled consultations and performs surgeries, typically on Fridays or Saturdays, at times that are convenient for both you and him. To start, you can book a free virtual consultation to discuss your concerns before scheduling an in-person appointment.

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is typically well-tolerated and not considered painful. At The Calla Clinic, the procedure is performed under local anaesthetic, ensuring you remain comfortable throughout. You may experience some mild swelling, tightness, or discomfort after surgery, but this is usually manageable with over-the-counter pain relief. Most patients find recovery to be straightforward, with any discomfort improving significantly within the first few days. We provide detailed aftercare instructions and support to ensure a smooth and comfortable healing process.

Healing and results occur at different stages. While the skin incision heals within two weeks, the deeper tissues and muscles require more time to fully recover, and swelling can persist for longer. Most patients notice visible improvements around 6 weeks and 3 months, with the full results becoming apparent between 6–9 months. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and good skincare routine will help optimise and prolong your results. Our Calla Clinic team will guide you on the best aftercare practices to support your recovery.

Yes, temporary adjustments are necessary during the healing process. For the first two weeks, we recommend avoiding heavy lifting, bending, and exercise. Light exercise can be resumed between weeks 2 and 4. We also advise against smoking or alcohol consumption, as both can delay healing. If you have a desk-based job, you can return to work within a week. However, manual labour or jobs involving heavy lifting will require at least 4 weeks before you can resume normal duties. Amended duties may be necessary during this time.
We will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions and ongoing support throughout your recovery.

Yes, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is generally considered a safe procedure when performed by a qualified and experienced surgeon. At The Calla Clinic, our surgeon, Dr. Rohit Seth, is highly skilled in performing this procedure with precision and care. As with any surgery, there are risks involved, such as infection, scarring, or temporary swelling, but these are rare and can be minimised with proper care and adherence to aftercare instructions. We thoroughly assess your suitability for the procedure during the consultation and ensure you are fully informed about the process. Your safety and satisfaction are our top priorities.

The best way to determine if you’re suitable for eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is through a comprehensive consultation with our experienced surgeon. Generally, good candidates for the procedure are individuals who are in good overall health, do not have any serious eye conditions, and are looking to address concerns like excess skin, under-eye bags, or drooping eyelids. During your consultation, we’ll discuss your medical history, goals, and assess the condition of your eyelids to ensure the procedure is right for you. We’ll work with you to set realistic expectations and ensure you fully understand the process, helping you to make an informed decision.

It is not recommended to drive immediately after blepharoplasty surgery. You should arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home. It’s generally safe to resume driving once you feel comfortable and are no longer experiencing blurred vision, discomfort, or the effects of any medications. This usually takes about 1-2 days, but it’s important to follow your surgeon’s advice and ensure you’re fully recovered before getting behind the wheel.
